Giant Bubble Wand

DIY EASY GIANT BUBBLE WAND

Summer fun in less than 5 minutes for less than 50 cents! Here is a great summer project that is fast and easy and will keep kids busy for hours. My children have loved these bubble wands. They get pulled out of the closet to signal the arrival summer.

Supplies Needed:
A plastic milk or water jug OR a foam sheet

1 dowel that is 3/8” round x 36” long

60” of  1/2-3/4”  ribbon (I used 5/8”) I also tried double fold bias tape that is ½” wide when folded. Why did I use this? Because I had a leftover piece in my sewing drawer. It worked too. So don’t be afraid to try scraps and see if they work. (I did try a piece of string but it didn’t work as well.)

1 Rubber band or a small piece of duct tape

Preparation:

Use the measurements to cut the slider out of the plastic jug or the foam. Use a heavy duty hole punch or small pair of scissors to make the slit and the large hole for the dowel. Be sure that the large hole is big enough for the dowel to slide through easily. ADULT HELP IS NEEDED to cut out the plastic slider.

To assemble the wand take the ribbon and fold it so that you have a 20” section and a 40” section. Put the fold through the small slit in the plastic (or foam) slider. Pull about an inch of ribbon through and then  open the folded part and pull both of  the other ends through the opening in the ribbon so that it will cinch down on the slider.
Put the slider onto the dowel. Be sure it slides easily.
To attach the ribbon ends to the end of  the dowel pick up the shortest end first then pick up the longer one. Be sure the ribbon isn’t twisted. Hold them at the end of the dowel and attach them using a rubber band or a small piece of duct tape. Wrap it tightly. DONE

Great Bubble Recipe.
Dawn or Joy liquid dishwashing soap works best.
1 C of liquid soap
15 C of water
1-2 Tbsp. Glycerin (optional) Sometimes I have used glycerin to help the giant bubbles to not pop so easily.
This will make 1 gallon of bubbles.

Using the bubble wand:

Move the slide all the way down to the end of the dowel so that it is touching the rubber band or duct tape. (I call this the closed position.) Completely dip the ribbon into a tub or bucket of the bubble solution. Pull it out and slowly open the ribbon (in other words move the slider down the wand towards you). You may need to walk forward or turn in a circle to begin to form the bubble. As the bubble forms then move the slider to the closed position again and it will cut the bubble off and let it float away.
